Wisp Launcher is free while it’s in beta. It’s signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so macOS opens it like any other app.

Install in about a minute

  1. 1 Drag it to Applications Open the .dmg and drag Wisp Launcher into Applications. Installing there keeps permissions working across updates.
  2. 2 Open it once Wisp has no Dock icon. It lives in the menu bar, and a welcome window helps you set your shortcut.
  3. 3 Allow Accessibility if you want snippets Snippets need it to expand as you type. Search and workflows work without it.

Permissions

macOS asks for these only when a feature needs them. Wisp works without any of them; you just lose that feature.

AccessibilityExpanding snippets as you type, pasting from the launcher, reading selected text for workflow hotkeys, and Lock Screen.
AutomationCommands that talk to Finder or System Events (Empty Trash, Log Out, Restart, Eject, Dark Mode) and AppleScript in workflows. Asked on first use.
NotificationsThe Post Notification workflow action. Asked on first use.

Updating

Wisp checks for updates once a day and tells you in the menu bar menu when one is ready. Choose Check for Updates… from the menu bar menu to look now, or turn on automatic installs in Settings → General → Updates. Every update is signed, and Wisp only installs one that matches its own signing key. Your settings, snippets, workflows and learned rankings are kept, because they live in ~/Library/Application Support/Wisp Launcher/, not in the app.
